My Great-Grandparents were:
Johann
“Adam” Quanz. - I've been told that he and his brother came here from
Germany. They came to the U.S.A. for
religious reasons and/or to escape a war at the time. My uncle Howard stated, "As I understand my Grandfather
& brother came to this country by hiding on a boat to get away from
Germany, because of their religion. It
seems Germany was about to stop all.
They were both very religious.
My Dad told me his father was a strong believer in the Bible and was
very strict in his beliefs.
Our
records show Adam Quanz was born Aug. 14, 1831 in Buchenan (or Buchanau? jq)
Keichessen (KurHessen? jq), Germany. He
married Elizabeth Kincade, born Dec. 20, 1828 at Washington, New Jersey. Adam Quanz died Sept. 28, 1906 at Glade,
Kansas. Elizabeth Kincade Quanz died
Jan. 20, 1898 at Glade Kansas. Both are
buried at Glade, Kansas.
The
1850 USA census shows, Township of Mission (difficult to read gq) County of
Sussex, State of New Jersey " Adam Quince (the last name letters are hard
to determine exactly gq) - age 19 - Male - Laborer. The line above Adam shows, "Elizabeth Kincade - age 23 -
Female - Laborer. They were on the
Stephen F. Margarum farm valued at $20,000.
The
1870 USA census shows, Jackson Township, in the county of Union, State of Ohio,
"Quantz, Adam - 37 - Male - White - Farmer value of property $500 (the
lowest shown on the page, they lived in a dug out. gq) - place of birth
Darmstadt - mother and father of foreign birth." It also shows Elizabeth - 41- as "keeping house" and
the following children; Anna M. 17, Charles 15, Maria 13, Emily 11, Harriet 7,
Edward 5, John 11/12 born July 19, 1969.
Anna, Charles, Maria & Emily were born in New Jersey; the rest were
born in Ohio.
Later
research has given us the following information on the children.

Co., New Jersey D 10/14/1935 Married Wesley Moore Buried Price Cemetery
Richwood, Ohio.
2. Charles Wade B 5/24/1855 at Vernon, Sussex
Co., New Jersey D 12/1/1934 Married Amma Alice Snare Buried Marvin which later
became Glade, Kansas.
3. Maria Elizabeth B. 10/11/1856 at Wantage,
Sussex Co., New Jersey. D 1/16/1921. Married Dudley Gibbs. Buried Glade,
Kansas.
4. Margaret Emily B 5/22/1859 at Hardistion,
Sussex Co., New Jersey D 5/5/1889 Married Nicholas Taylor Buried Glade, Kansas.
5. Ellemory
B 2/21/1861 at Claiborne, Union Co., Ohio D 7/18/1862 buried Glade,
Kansas (? gq).
6. Harriett Eva (Hattie) B 9/26/1862 at
Jackson, Union Co., Ohio (I don't have her date of death) Married Warren,
Watson, Buried Erie, Kansas.
7. Albert
B 5/14/1864 at Claiborne, Union Co., Ohio D 8/4/1864 buried Richwood
Co., Ohio.
8. Alfert B 5/14/1864 (twin to Albert) at
Claiborne, Union Co., Ohio D 8/15/1864 Buried Richwood co., Ohio.
9. Edward B 7/27/1865 at Richwood, Ohio D
10/1/1937 Married Mary Emma Maxfield Buried Glade, Kansas.
10. John Adam B 7/19/1869 at Jackson
Richwood, Union Co., Ohio D 12/12/1951 Married Adda Emmaline Hatfield. Buried
I.O.O.F. Cemetery Watonga, Okla. (This is my Grandfather gq)
11. Robert B 11/11/1872 at Jackson, Union
Co., Ohio D 12/2/1872 Buried Richwood Co., Ohio.
I
have this information on Valentine Quanz.
He was born in Frankfurt, Germany. He married Minnie (the only name I have). I have some more info on Valentine but I'm
not sure he is the brother of Adam.
